Look forward to Backlight 2. We have not set a release window as yet, but it shouldn't be too long a wait. Keep an eye on our blog and newsletters for announcements to come.

Matthew, is it too early to give the slightest clues as to what options for other platforms to publish from that will be in Backlight 2?

Best regards, Mikkel

We will not be creating integrations with any other software. Our aim is that Backlight 2 should be fully independent of software dependencies.

Hi Matt,

For those of us who don't want to "dump Lightroom," can you give us some assurance that Backlight 2 will continue to integrate with LR if we want it to?

Thank you.

Re: Any news/update on a standalone Backlight?

We will continue to support our publish services plugin for Lightroom. It will now be optional, rather than a hard requirement, though. We have no intention of breaking the workflows, preferences or expectations of our existing users/audience. For the good of Backlight and the sake of potentially making it available to a larger audience, however, we want to add a software agnostic method of ingesting images.

Thanks, Matt!

That sounds ideal.

Backlight will support the management of albums and upload of photos within the admin webpage itself.  No 'ingestion' as such.

Not all functionality will be supported from day one though.  Of note, watermarks won't be supported.  Support for metadata will be limited and built on over time.
