cart 402

Backlight with cart is an amazing product, but at the moment I'm really frustrated. I tried to set up a shop with multiple Products and Packages an spend the last 2 days try doing that. Maybe most of my problems are caused by my own mistakes, but I think some also by bugs in the program. I think I started up to ten times form scratch, because when I delete products or packages everything goes crazy.

With my current version, I have the problem that I can't add the 'Digital Download' to the Package 'Download 10' (that works well in an earlier version). The Product is added to the Package List, but it is not added to the Package selection tool that show only 5 Products. Is there a limit for products in the selection tool? I had a similar problem with an earlier version at the user site, where only 5 Packages are selectable.

For some products, the order of the options is rather random. I tried a lot to fix that, but didn't found a logic behind it.

Even if it sounds very negative now, I think the Cart plugin is very interesting, if it works properly.

Re: cart 402

hard to tell what may be the problem with just a description and no link to an album.

I suggest sending Ben a link to a problem album along with Backlight admin access.

I believe the order of option is determined by the order that they're added to the products when you're setting up your products.

Re: cart 402

Thanks for your reply Rod. As I wrote before I restart from scratch to figure out was is going on. Therefor I only can sent a link to the current version. I know your support is fast, but we have a big time difference between a support request and a possible answer. Therefor I try to find out what's wrong before I ask someone.

Re: cart 402

It's really hard to provide support without being able to see the problem.
As a first step, try downloading the Cart again and replacing the module-cart folder. There have been some fixes applied a while ago regarding packages.

Re: cart 402

Thanks Ben, you can try it at my website http://weddings.wolfademeit.de. Login as admin, [redacted by Ben]
Try to add the Product Digital Download to the Package Download 10.
Feel free to change what you like at the site.

Re: cart 402

Thanks for the login.  Digital Downloads can only be added to Packages if the Cart setting Enable Offline Digital Purchases is enabled.  I've enabled this, and the Digital Download option can now be added to the package.

If I recall correctly, this requirement was made because of difficulty in determining which images had digital renditions when providing the 'add-to-package' dialogue for customers.

Re: cart 402

Thanks a lot Ben. That make sense. I did not see this information in the documentation.
One more thing. It would be very helpful for the buyer to see witch picture is already assigned to a package like we have this in the Client Response Gallery.

Re: cart 402

You can see that by visiting the cart.  An indicator on the thumbnails is a good idea though.

Re: cart 402

Yes I think a thumbnail indicator would help a lot. I my eyes the buyer should also see a information what he is doing at the moment. If he added a package he has to open the cart to see what he has to do. A way to help could be to replace the 'add Photo Package' Button with the information 'add photo #1 of 10 to your package'… and so on. I would disable all other buy options, until all photos for this package are selected by the user.
I selected a couple of packages and was not sure what I have to do, because there is no instand information visible. If a package has only a couple of Pictures that is not a problem, but if you have more then 50 pictures then you loose control about what is already added and what not.

Re: cart 402

You can always add instructional text to the copy area your album template, that way it can be shown in every album.
This can be in the form of a pop-up box if you'd rather not have it in the main text.

Re: cart 402

Thanks Rod, of course that is possible, but that is not a live information what a customer has to do now. It's a static, how to use the shop information and has nothing to do what the customer actual should do. Most of my customers will use the shop only once in lifetime. So it is important to guide them through the shop with only the information they need.
As I wrote before, I added some packages to the cart and did not know what to do next. Then I was able to add other packages and get lost as I opened the cart.
I think it's very important to give a customer a life information what he did last and what he has to do next. e.g. a pop-box 'Thank you to add this Package, please select your 10 pictures now' and then 'you have selected 1 of 10 pictures now'. During this process I would not allow to add other packages, or buying other items.
Very, very important is a visible information, witch picture is already added to a package, by showing an indicator at the gallery thumbnail and use all the options that we have when using the CRG, e.g. show selected, show not selected…
That would make this shop amazing and easy to use for every customer without reading a long instruction before.

Re: cart 402

Some good suggestions. Historically, development of package handling has been a very poor use of my time. It's been a lot of work and has almost no take-up. So any further work will be of low priority.

Re: cart 402

That is very sad to hear Ben. Your Cart plugin is a very good option to earn more money for every photographer. The actual way to set up the shop is a little bit difficult for a photographer who has no programming or database knowledge, but I think it's worth to invest the time.
It would at least be very important to mark the selected pictures. How can I display an additional text in a popup box?
