CE4 - Sunset - Backlight

I had a web site on 500px but they have changes their subscriptions and I will not be using their new service as it will cost me $10+ a month extra, I have CE4 and Stage which I used to create a web site before I went over to 500px. So I'm now looking to create a new web site again from scratch but I see CE4 is described as being in its sunset period. I do not really want to spend $100+ on Backlight but don't want to waste my time if the sun is setting soon on CE4! Also CE4 is not that old is it? What's your thoughts please? If there was a really good offer to upgrade from CE4 to Backlight I would not hesitate.

Re: CE4 - Sunset - Backlight

Hi Selos,

CE4 is almost three years old; it launched in July 2014. Lifespans for previous versions have ranged between 1.5 to 2 years before they have been retired and replaced by a major new version (i.e. CE3 to CE4, for example). So yes, it's old.

And we're just completely finished with Lightroom's Web module. Never again.

So looking at 500px pricing, I see $19.99/mo ($239.99 billed annually) giving you this:

Customizable website
Online store
Client proofing

To do all of that with Backlight, you'd spend $235 on the following:

Backlight + Pages ($135)
Cart Add-on ($60)
Client Response Add-on ($40)

And that's a one-time purchase for software you would likely continue to use for more than a year, and comes with full support. And if you don't need Cart or Client Response features, you can subtract that cost. We think our pricing is more than competitive; it's fair.

Cheers,
Matt

Re: CE4 - Sunset - Backlight

Hello Matt

Thanks for taking the time to give me some perspective on the comparison between Backlight and 500px.

It looks like I will be buying Backlight

Best Wishes

Andrew
