Masonary image height for tall thin images

Hi,

I have just created a new gallery for stained glass windows http://picsbymike.co.uk/galleries/ttg-0 … ned-glass/

some of the images are tall and thin - the nature of the subject. There seems to be a constraint on how high the image can be in the masonary view and so this leaves excessive spaces between some of the images which you can see on the web page above.

Is there a template setting I can change to overcome this?

Thanks,

Mike

What sort of settings are you using for thumbnail sizes?

Re: Masonary image height for tall thin images

Hi Rod,

For the template in question in Album Settings >> Image Settings >> Thumbnails

I have width 168px, height 327 px.

I have experimented with increasing the height figure but it didn't seem to make any difference so I returned it to 327px on the basis of "change only one thing at a time"!

Re: Masonary image height for tall thin images

Try as I might, I can't duplicate your problem on my test site.
One thing I thought of is this: If you've changed the thumbnail settings and published new images, you might have thumbnails of different sizes.
Try republishing all your thumbnails. But first, change the settings in the Lightroom Publisher plug-in. Check the "Publish thumbnails without updating other renditions" box and save the settings.
Select all the images in the album, right click, and choose "Mark to republish"

Any time you make image size or metadata changes in a template, you need to republish the images.

Re: Masonary image height for tall thin images

The height constraint is ignored in the masonry layout. You should set your thumbnail width sufficiently to fill the width of the column.

Re: Masonary image height for tall thin images

Hi guys,

With Matt's suggestion to increase the width (counter intuitive - I would never have guessed this!!) and Rod's guidance on republishing it has fixed the problem, so thank you both. I created a dedicated template for that gallery with the width cranked up to 327px.

Puzzled as to why this problem never cropped up before in other galleries where I have tall thin images.

As always, thanks for your help, yet again. Great service!!
