Forum Advice

Hello Chaps,

Left field question here. I have been asked to create a Forum at work. What product and on what platform do you guys suggest I should use?

This would not be published outside of our firewall (probably) and it would be a general helpdesk type situation. Suggestions of freeware / open source would be a bonus.

Re: Forum Advice

Hi Jon,

Which software to choose very much depends on your particular needs. One of the most infuriating struggles with forums is keeping them spam free, but if for internal use only, then such will hopefully not be a concern for you. You might begin by checking out Vanilla, https://vanillaforums.org/. I tried it once some years ago and found it not robust enough for my needs, but it has continued to evolve since, and was, as I recall, fairly easy to set up.

I have not tried Lefora, but it also seems worth a look. http://www.lefora.com/

Generally speaking, I would not recommend FluxBB (which we are currently using), PunBB or phpBB. FluxBB is a pain in the ass to get going, and with both PunBB and PhpBB, I always had big, big spam problems.

Re: Forum Advice

Hi Matt,

That is excellent thank you. I've read a mess of reviews but not of these. I'll check them out and see where it gets me...

I'm making a Rod (sic) for my own back as this will allow my users to raise issues for me to fix yikes
