URL & Plugin?

Good morning all-

I have two questions which relate to one another.
First, why is it necessary to have my base URL in the Web Module settings? I don't think I've seen this in other plugins...

Second, do the CE4 Plugins essentially work like other plugins I've used to create a gallery or [second] website based off my main site? To date I've used LR plugins to place a gallery in a sub-folder on my server based off my main URL. I guess what I'm saying is do the CE4 plugins have to be used as a stand alone static website?

Thx! Christian~

Re: URL & Plugin?

First, why is it necessary to have my base URL in the Web Module settings? I don't think I've seen this in other plugins...

It's necessary for a couple of reasons. One is navigation. The other is to ensure the needed css and js files are loaded.

Second, do the CE4 Plugins essentially work like other plugins I've used to create a gallery or [second] website based off my main site?

You can use TTG galleries as stand alone galleries if you wish.

To date I've used LR plugins to place a gallery in a sub-folder on my server based off my main URL. I guess what I'm saying is do the CE4 plugins have to be used as a stand alone static website?

Since you've posted in the Pages forum, I'm assuming you're asking about that plug-in. Pages is designed to create the framework of an entire website. You can add additional indexes, galleries, etc.

You could use Pages to create a second site within an existing site by placing the new Pages-based site in its own subfolder (going back to your first question, it will be essential for the Site URL to be filled out and that it contains the sub-folder)

If you need to create a second site off of your main site, doing so in a subdomain rather than a sub-folder makes the most sense.

Re: URL & Plugin?

Thanks Rod...actually I started with the Pages plugin but don't know what to do now. I really like the Flexible Masonry layout but was told I have to use Pages, Gallery, and Publisher. I didn't really want to get that involved...I am just trying to see if I can create nice wedding web site, not just a gallery, with one gallery, About, and Contact based off my main site; probably a subdomain.

Re: URL & Plugin?

If you want to display an image gallery other than the slide show gallery and full-page galleries built in to Pages, you'll need to get CE4 Gallery. It's function is to display galleries.

You could use a Masonry CE4 Gallery page as your site's home page, it just gets a little messy compared to use Pages. But you'd still need CE4 Gallery.

And it's not really that difficult to set up Pages and to configure things to use a masonry gallery as the home page. There are tutorials and documentation on how to do it. And there's always help here on the forum.

Re: URL & Plugin?

Rod...I'm SO confused...and yes I had to take about a five month break from all this....

I got CE4 Gallery and set up a 'masonry' gallery to display on my 'Pages' Home page. I don't want any other galleries.
I exported it and dumped it in the 'galleries' folder but nothing shows up. Or should it go in a 'Gallery' fold within TTG-BE?
I'm not a fan of publishing straight from Lightroom. Do I have to use it?

Don't know if it will help but the URL is www.wed.christianmelgard.com

Thanks!

Re: URL & Plugin?

If you want to use a masonry style gallery as your home page through Pages, you must use the Publisher.
You'll need to set up Pages so that the Home page gallery is managed by Publisher.
All the directions are in the docs:
http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … _home_page

I exported it and dumped it in the 'galleries' folder but nothing shows up.

Do you mean this gallery: http://www.wed.christianmelgard.com/galleries/
When you export and upload a gallery, you must upload the entire exported folder to the galleries/ folder. the url to the gallery will then be yoursite.com/galleries/your-gallery/.
There will then be a thumbnail and description on the Galleries page so that you can access the gallery. But as you're not planning on having any galleries or using the Galleries page, just delete what you've put in the /galleries/ folder.

What you appear to want to do is to just have a masonry thumbnail gallery as your home page and have About and Contact pages as well. Is that correct?

To do this, in CE4 Gallery, create a gallery the way you want it to look. Then export that gallery (name it whatever you want, but use only letters, numbers, underscores, and dashes. No spaces or special characters). You do not need to include the images in the export as this gallery will serve as a template for Publisher.

Upload the entire exported folder to the /ttg-be/templates/gallery/ folder.

In the Lightroom Publisher plug-in, create a new album containing the images you want featured on your home page. In the Base Settings tab, choose the gallery you just uploaded for the Template. Follow the instructions in the link above for naming the album slug, etc.

Re: URL & Plugin?

OK...I did all this...
"...in CE4 Gallery, create a gallery the way you want it to look.
In the Base Settings tab, choose the gallery you just uploaded for the Template."....

BUT when I try to create a new album in Publisher it says,
'Unable to perform action: listTemplates
Message: No templates have been created'

???

Re: URL & Plugin?

this means you haven't uploaded the template to the right place, or you haven't uploaded it correctly.
Was the template made with CE4 Gallery?
When you uploaded it, did you upload the entire exported folder?
Did you upload it to the yoursite.com/ttg-be/templates/gallery/ folder?
Can you provide a link to that uploaded template?

Re: URL & Plugin?

Why wouldn't you want to publish directly from Lightroom?

----

If you're careful with your site URLs and navigation links, you could setup the site you describe using CE4 Gallery and Pages.

The gallery would go into your /public_html (or equivalent) folder, so that it would be your Home page.

You could then export from CE4 Pages, and upload all of that as a folder, i.e. /public_html/pages.

So you'd end up with something like (abridged):

/public_html

    index.html <= Your gallery
    /lib <= your gallery's assets
    /pages/about.html
    /pages/contact.html
    etc.

So this is what we would consider a "non-standard" configuration, but it's absolutely something you can do. You'll just need to be mindful of your site URL and navigation links as you go, so that you can ensure everything matches up correctly.

Re: URL & Plugin?

Hi Rod-
Yes I made the template with CE4 Gallery.
Yes I uploaded the entire exported folder. You mentioned I may not have uploaded it correctly. For me I exported it from LR then dumped it in yoursite.com/ttg-be/templates/gallery/ folder via FileZilla.
Not sure what you mean or how to get you the link but is this what you want?
http://wed.christianmelgard.com/ttg-be/ … s/gallery/

Thx!

Re: URL & Plugin?

I think I see the problem. You need to upload the entire exported Gallery folder. It looks like you're uploading the contents of the folder. The link you provided goes to the folder where you should be uploading the exported gallery folder.

Let's say you named your exported CE4 Gallery "my-template". Then the URL to the template would be:
yoursite.com/ttg-be/templates/gallery/my-template/
So delete what you uploaded earlier and then uploade the exported folder

Re: URL & Plugin?

Another question. Are you exporting the gallery and uploading the exported folder using a separate FTP client software or are you using Lightroom's upload utility in the Web module?

Re: URL & Plugin?

and the url to the CE4 gallery you uploaded to /ttg-be/templates/gallery/?

We can't really help with anything unless we can see it.

You still haven't deleted what you uploaded here: http://wed.christianmelgard.com/ttg-be/ … s/gallery/
I should not be seeing a ttg generated page there. At the most, there would be a listing of what's in that folder

the URL I uploaded to was http://wed.christianmelgard.com/ttg-be/ … Template1/
it still shows nothing but a Home page.  ?

I deleted http://wed.christianmelgard.com/ttg-be/ … s/gallery/ and now it shows a list of what's in that folder.

Re: URL & Plugin?

What you see here: http://wed.christianmelgard.com/ttg-be/ … Template1/
is the gallery template.

When you go to create an album you should see the name of the template listed in Publisher. It should appear in the Template drop-down in the Base Settings tab of the Create/Edit Album dialog. Are you not seeing this?

it still shows nothing but a Home page.

What specifically are you referring to? The gallery template at that url? Your home page? Are you trying to replace your home page with a Publisher controlled album?

Re: URL & Plugin?

I created an album in Publisher and 'Published' it...

I know it's been a while but I'm trying to show a Masonry style Gallery on my 'Home' page only....

you said "If you want to use a masonry style gallery as your home page through Pages, you must use the Publisher. You'll need to set up Pages so that the Home page gallery is managed by Publisher."... That's what I thought I did to date....

Thx

Re: URL & Plugin?

if you followed the instructions for using Publisher to manage a home page gallery:
http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … _home_page
you should be seeing that gallery here:
http://wed.christianmelgard.com/galleri … s-gallery/
However, what is at that url is made with CE4 Pages, not CE4 Gallery.

When you created the album you should have selected "Wed_Template1" as the template and you should have named the slug "pages-gallery".

It looks to me as if you've created something out of CE4 Pages and named it "pages-gallery"

also, looking at the source code for your home page, it doesn't appear that you've marked the check box in Pages that allows Publisher to replace the gallery

Re: URL & Plugin?

the URL for CE4 Pages is the 'Pages' part of the site. That's what all the instructions say to do. I cant do this without CE4 Pages /because that sets up all the 'pages' right??? Is there some particular order you have to export and upload all of this??

I'm pretty sure I selected 'Wed_Template1' and the instructions said you could leave the Slug name blank and it would default to a name....

I checked I checked the box 'allow Publisher to replace the Gallery'.

Can I pay you to fix this?  smile  It seems pretty cool and all if you only use one plug-in but trying to do this is a nightmare....at least for me.

Re: URL & Plugin?

That's correct, that's not what I was pointing to though.

I'm pretty sure I selected 'Wed_Template1' and the instructions said you could leave the Slug name blank and it would default to a name....

That's for regular albums that will then appear on your Galleries page (which you're not using), not for an album that will be used to replace the Pages gallery. Take a look again at these instructions:
http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … _home_page

If you follow the instructions, you'll end up with an album in the /galleries/ folder. This album will have the slug "pages-gallery", and the url to this album will be

http://wed.christianmelgard.com/galleries/pages-gallery/

But as I mentioned earlier, when going to that url I find a page created by CE4 Pages.

so the first thing to do is, using Filezilla, delete the "pages-gallery" folder that's in the christianmelgard.com/galleries/ folder. It's not an album, it's another Pages installation and it won't work this way.

Next, make certain that in the Pages setting for your main site that you've selected the option to replace the Pages gallery via Publisher:
fetch.php?media=appearance:thegallery-replacement.png
And that the gallery appears on the Home page:
page-assignment.jpg

In Publisher, create a new album and make sure it uses the template you've designed: 'Wed_Template1'
Make sure the slug is 'pages-gallery' (without quote marks) and hide it from the autoindex, step 3 here:
http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … he_gallery

Can I pay you to fix this?  smile  It seems pretty cool and all if you only use one plug-in but trying to do this is a nightmare....at least for me.

We'll see. I can't do the actual publishing for you since that has to be done from your catalog. All I can really do is tell you if you've got things in the right place.
