Multiple favicon sizes with Backlight?

Does Backlight support multiple sized favicons? If not, are there any plans to implement this in the future?

Really loving how Backlight works so far. I liked the power of CE4 but it seemed needlessly complicated to get it working through Lightroom.

Thanks!

Re: Multiple favicon sizes with Backlight?

As far as I know, multiple sizes are supported within an individual favicon.ico file.  If you use such a file then it should work with Backlight.

Matt may need to chip in if he knows otherwise.

Re: Multiple favicon sizes with Backlight?

Funny. I was literally just building an updated favicon.ico file to include in Backlight's admin. =P

The ICO file format is capable of packaging multiple icon sizes into a single file, with the browser pulling the most relevant version of the icon based on size and device resolution (i.e. pulls 2x icon for Retina displays, etc.).

On Mac, I use Icon Slate to build my ICO files, and Apple Touch Icons.

I'm not sure what one would use on Windows.

Ah! You know much that is hidden oh Matt! I will look up a Windows equivalent.

Thanks!

Re: Multiple favicon sizes with Backlight?

but backlight will not upload a .ico or .icns file.  it says it is an unsupported file type and to upload GIF, jpeg or png.  how do you upload the .ico file from icon slate?

Re: Multiple favicon sizes with Backlight?

Hi John,

Backlight should support upload of .ico files. I've just verified this locally, by successfully uploading a favicon.ico file to my setup.

Re: Multiple favicon sizes with Backlight?

I tried again. The name for me file in backlight must have the .ico suffix. Not just the file itself.
It still doesn't show apple touch icon options. That pop up menu is blank.  Not a big deal, but shouldn't it let me select the ico file I uploaded?

Re: Multiple favicon sizes with Backlight?

The apple-touch-icon should be a square, either 152 or 180 pixels, in accordance with Apple's guidelines. Images meeting this specification will populate the drop-list.

Re: Multiple favicon sizes with Backlight?

thanks.  the apple touch icon also seems to need to be a .png.

Which is in line with Apple's guidelines. We perhaps should have done a better job communicating that. I will add "PNG" to our description text for the Apple Touch Icon in designer. Thanks!
