CE4-Stage incredibly slow

Love all things TTG - I have been a supporter for a long time.
Now, could someone help me - I’m losing my mind watching the wheel spins on my screen!

This morning I downloaded the 2016 CE4-Gallery, it worked fine. This afternoon, I upgraded to CE4-Stage. It takes forever to update the changes in the setting - spoils all the fun of exploring it!
- I am doing a barebone test template with 5 images - max size 600px wide/thumb 150px wide
- I am working on a MacBookPro - OS 10.10.5, Lightroom 4,4,1
- The CE4-Stage.lrwebengine is in the folder user /library/applicationsupport/adobe/lightroom/webgallery

I removed the old webengine, checked everywhere if there was a pref. or something that would slow down the new one. Even rebooted after installing - no changes
Any tip will be much appreciated.
Thanks
JC

Re: CE4-Stage incredibly slow

Stage (and all the plug-ins) do take a little bit of time to update after changes, but it shouldn't be a very long wait. And Stage has always been pretty nimble for me.

The latest version of Lightroom has been a bit faster when using the Web Module, but even with LR 4 it shouldn't take forever.

You could try resetting the Lightroom Preferences. That can fix all sorts of Lightroom weirdness.

Re: CE4-Stage incredibly slow

Thanks Rod,
I clocked 42 seconds loading time on a 5 images test-portfolio this morning!
40-some seconds is an eternity in computer time!

Except for changing the File Name Generation in the Prefs. - replace illegal characters with (-), replace empty space with (_) - I don’t see what else to change.
Any suggestion?
Thx

Re: CE4-Stage incredibly slow

OK I think I identified the general area of the problem - a connection problem.
- Once the progress bar kicks in - it’s OK - it runs fairly fast.

The issue is the connection LR to webengine or webengine to LR
- 40-some seconds loading when I open LR
- 40 some seconds update preview when I do a single change
- Preview in browser - navigation/components.css building take forever The browser does not even open!

I did a comparative test with Gallerific HTML5 and Lightroom HTML gallery - no problem with both - make/enter changes & opening the browser - fairly fast & stable.

I tried to download a new CE4 Stage packet - things do happen sometimes.
I went on the CE4 Stage page download of the TTG site, my only option is to pitch in an additional $25 and no guarantee the new plug will work any better…
Any alternative?
Thx

Re: CE4-Stage incredibly slow

The CE4 plugins are significantly larger and more complex than the Lightroom HTML Gallery, hence the wait while the gallery puts itself together. This is the price we pay for having so many options. I've endeavored to improve performance at every turn, but whenever I remove options, someone complains that such-and-such slider is missing compared to prior versions.

Preview in Browser functionality depends on whether or not the output requires PHP. CE4 Pages always requires PHP, so never previews. CE4 Gallery requires PHP only when specific features are enabled, so can be previewed, but only if PHP-dependent features are switched off; same goes for Stage.

Are you not using CE4 Stage now? If you are, you can re-download your purchase and update to the latest CE4 Stage version by using the appropriate link on the Support page: http://theturninggate.net/support/

If you're using CE3 or earlier version, you'll need to purchase the CE4 version.

Re: CE4-Stage incredibly slow

Matthew & Rod,

Thank you both for trying to help
I downloaded/installed a new plugin from the link you sent me.

Recap
- OS 10.10.5
- LR 4.4.1
- CE4 Stage.lrwebengine - created/modified 01-06, 2016 at 1:47 PM

1 tested a web gallery - 2 .jpg 1000x1000
Gallery lay-out - default

- Average waiting time for update preview 55-70 seconds
- Average waiting time for browser preview 45-50 seconds

Option .php off - browser preview works

From the upper left corner progress bar, files most likely to create a bottleneck:
lib/css/ common.css, navigation.css, & component.css, index.thml

I ran a W3C validator test on some files in the lib/css folder. They all come with the error message
Parse Error Lexical error at line 1, column 2. Encountered: "%" (37), after : "<"

Could be that, could be something else..
I’m not going to touch it - it’s your baby
Just trying to help - You have a good product - I am sure it is a minor bug

Best luck, let me know when it’s fixed

JC

Re: CE4-Stage incredibly slow

JC, I am just wondering how many images you have in your film strip? Try to have just one.

The css files inside the Lr plugin are not plain CSS files but they contain LUA markup that is processed by Lr. Once exported, these files become plain CSS and then should pass the W3C validator.

Re: CE4-Stage incredibly slow

JC,
please send any order details directly to Matt.

I don't know if there's anything to be fixed. Your case seems to be an outlier.

As a test, I have 15 images in the filmstrip using a Galleria slide show with 1200 px wide images (jpg quality = 76), and the update takes only 10 seconds. And my images and catalog are on an external usb drive, which would theoretically slow things down. (Where are your catalog and images stored? If on something like a network drive, this could explain things)

(I'm using Lightroom CC, which is probably slightly faster in the Web Module than LR 4, so there's that)

You say you're using the "default gallery" layout for Stage? Stage doesn't really have a default layout. Which layout are you using?

Matt's the developer, so he's the one to come up with something. I'm just a user with way too much time on my hands wink

Re: CE4-Stage incredibly slow

One other thing I've noticed is that Lightroom can be a memory leaking hog and sometimes it really slows down the TTG plug-ins. I occasionally need to close Lightroom and relaunch it when this occurs.
It doesn't seem to be as much of a problem in LR 6/CC as it was in LR 5, but it still happens.

Re: CE4-Stage incredibly slow

Matthew & Rod,
I tried again this weekend - different set up & LR 6.4 . No change, 30-50 second to update a simple type change!
Totally unsuitable for large volume processing.
Frustrating because you worked on a good product - My feeling is still that there is a minor bug when LR tries to recognize the plug - once the path has been found, the progress is fairly normal.
Let me know when you come up with a patch via e.mail. Thanks, JC

Re: CE4-Stage incredibly slow

The problem is this: Matt can't come up with a fix for a problem he can't duplicate.

Earlier I asked about your setup:

Which Stage configuration are you using? Galleria? Full Page Flip, etc. Knowing what you're trying to do is the only way we can try to duplicate the problem.

How are your catalog and images stored? Are your catalog or images located on a network drive perhaps?

Re: CE4-Stage incredibly slow

Here are some great ideas for troubleshooting things:
http://www.lightroomqueen.com/standard- … ing-steps/

Some things that stood out a possible problems include corrupted fonts, a catalog that needs optimizing, resetting preferences, and available space on your hard drive.
There are a few other tips on that page you can try, like testing in a new catalog and creating a new computer user account.
