Slow response when downloading TIFFs

When downloading TIFFs, the time between clicking the download button and the file to start downloading is much longer than when downloading JPEGs. It's much too slow.

Is this an issue with TTG CRG or the web host? Any way to speed things up.

And when a client tried to access the TIFF download gallery, they got the message below:

"Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@xxxxxxxxx.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

Is this something to do with the CRG? or the web host?

No way to tell without seeing something. Can you supply a link to a gallery so Ben will have something to look at and test?

Since TIFFs are much larger than jpgs, this could explain the extra time needed.

The error might be coming because your host could be imposing download limits. Try asking your host about that. Or check your php.ini file on the server to see if any limits are being imposed.

Re: Slow response when downloading TIFFs

TIFFs are likely far too large for our download script. If serving TIFFs in this manner, you will need to use the HTML download type.

Thanks Rod.

I don't understand, Matthew (that's what the expression on my face would be telling you if you could see it).

Re: Slow response when downloading TIFFs

Sorry. Remembering back to an older version that had different options. You will need to reduce the file sizes of your downloadable TIFFs, or find a different way to deliver them. For example, you might get the selects, package those images into a zip file, then allow your client to download that zip file directly, using a link or FTP login.
