Site setup, few questions

Hi everyone, I am new here. I installed the Web Publishing Suite only yesterday and my site is already up and running.

Here is the URL: http://www.alainhoffman.eu

I still have a few questions though:

- at the top left corner of every page, I have */> that appears. Any idea where that comes from?

- I authorized the publication of the localisation metadata. Some of my pictures are geolocalised, but the icon to open Google Map remains grey

- I copied the meta tag from the Google Webmaster Tools into my home page but when I try to verify it, I get the message "We weren't able to verify your site: http://www.alainhoffman.eu/"

- is it possible to chose the picture that appears on the home page randomly so that it changes every time?

Any help/suggestion welcome.

One more question regarding updates: if I change some texts or add a page to my site, what do I have to reupload? For example: there is a typo on my Galleries page, I wrote picure iso picture. I changed it in LR. If I export again, what files do I have to upload again?

And thanks for this great product!

that has to do with how you added the meta tag, there's some extra mark up in there. How did you add the Google site verification meta tag? You should be adding only the ID string, not the entire tag

This probably due to what I noted above. It looks like you put the entire meta tag in the field rather than just the needed ID

did you enable the feature in the Album under the Features tab?

No, not with single images. You could choose a Galleria slideshow set to randomize the order of the slideshow. But with a single image, unless you wanted to try your hand at adding some javascript or jquery via phplugins, then no.

if I change some texts or add a page to my site, what do I have to reupload?

page text for Pages is stored in html files located in the /fragments/ folder. So if all you change is some text copy, then you only need to upload the appropriate file in the /fragments/ folder. Note that if you have the sidebar enabled there will be two html files for each page that uses sidebars.

Adding a page to your site is another matter. If you're not currently using all the pages provided by Pages but you then want to add the one (or ones) you previously weren't using, then the simplest thing is to export and upload all again. This is because you'd most likely need to add the new page to the navigation bar so all pages would then need to be uploaded again to reflect that change.

If you want to add a page outside of Pages (using Stage, for instance) then you would export and upload to wherever you need it on the site. You'll need to provide navigation to it. If it's a main page you want to have in the navigation bar you'll have a couple of options. One is to change the navigation in Pages and every other page you've created, re-export, and re-upload.

The easy way is to manage your navigation with phplugins. Then all you would need to do is add a line of code to a file and the new navigation item will just appear.

If you're just getting started, I highly recommend that you at least enable phplugins site-wide right from the start. It's easy to do and will save you a lot of time if later on you want to do things like manage navigation or add custom css.

Re: Site setup, few questions

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I had indeed added the entire tag, and not just the ID string! So I corrected it and everything is fine now.

Some follow-up questions:

- If I want to use a Galleria slideshow in order, do I need to buy CE4 Stages or can it be done with Pages?

- Finally, the option "Enable maps" was not set under the features tab of the album. I suppose the option "Delete localisation info" should not ne ticket in the CE4 Publisher settings?

Thanks again for your feedback and have a nice week-end!
