Does anyone use LightZone rather than Lightroom.

I do find the web function of LR slow and that is all I use it for. I convert my RAWs with Qimage.

I have been looking for alternatives that will support TTG plugins.

I have no idea whether LightZone will so I will have to experiment.

But any view from round here will be much appreciated.

I've never heard of it.

Re: Does anyone use LightZone rather than Lightroom.

Looking at the project website, I don't see anything about a Web module equivalent. And it being an open source project, I don't imagine they'd be very open to premium plugins.

Thanks Matthew for looking.

I'll get a copy installed and see if it works.

In an attempt to go totally open source, I have tested lightzone quite a bit and like certain features about it

But there is no compatibility with any thing designed for Lightroom whatsoever.

Oh, were you asking whether our existing plugins would run under Lightzone? Assuredly not. I thought you were asking whether I would ever want to develop plugins for Lightzone ...

No. That was not in my mind at all.

I was just wondering whether Lightzone might be a trimmer, and consequently faster, front end.

I have never timed how long it takes LR to create a web folder of around 100 images. My guess is about five minutes so I find something else to do on the PC. What is annoying is when I make a silly mistake, such as including one wrong image or spelling the heading wrong. Re-making the folder involves starting from scratch so that is another five minutes.

Not to worry though. There is always something needing doing and the time gets filled.

Re: Does anyone use LightZone rather than Lightroom.

Publisher creates albums much, much faster than the Web Module spits out galleries. If you have lots of galleries to make, Then using Publisher can save you lots of time.

Re: Does anyone use LightZone rather than Lightroom.

Thanks Rod.

I'll buy it today.

I have CE4 Gallery.

I could buy the Web Publishing Bundle.

I'm using Microsoft Front Page for my main index page. Maybe CE4 Pages would be better.

But I reckon I don't need Auto Index and Viewpoint Sizer so it's better for me to Publishing and Pages separately rather than the full bundle.

Re: Does anyone use LightZone rather than Lightroom.

Autoindex creates index pages for your galleries so that you won't have to create those manually in Front Page. And then you can style your autoindex pages to match your gallery pages too.
And if you want to create Album Sets (using Publisher) that are styled like your albums, then you need Autoindex to create the needed templates.

Using Pages will make it much easier to have design continuity throughout your site. And once you design in one plug-in, it's easy to share the settings with the other plug-ins.

Viewport Sizer is free. It comes in handy to preview what pages will look like on different devices.
