Images appear less sharp

Hi,

I managed to setup a showcase page with some of my work.
One thing I noticed it that the images look unsharp as a sort of reduced quality as I have set the quality slider to the max.

To preview; www.aimhigh.aero/showcase has the images.
Any idea how this happens? The images I have exported are all edited .psd in original format.

Regards,
Cris

Re: Images appear less sharp

Cris - I tried the link you provided and see the same error message as Rod.  So I went to your website link and then to the Showcase and it works fine.  On my iPad I don’t see any degradation of quality- every image is tack sharp.  Maybe on a larger monitor the quality is fuzzy?  I love your images!

Re: Images appear less sharp

The images in the showcase are 900px x 600px. They look fine on my monitor and iPad, but on a large Retina display? They probably would look a little soft.

I'd suggest changing the image rendition size in the template (to maybe 1200 or 2000px) and republishing.

And I agree with Terry. Your images are amazing.

Re: Images appear less sharp

I definitely wouldn't crank the Quality slider to max either. Check this article by Jeffrey Friedl:
http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/jpeg-quality

You can probably see from his examples, somewhere between 70-84, file size explodes with little, if any improvement to visual fidelity.

Re: Images appear less sharp

@tgalex
Thanks Terry.

@Rod
Thanks.
I have now changed my settings from 900px x 600px to 2000px x 1333px and republished all the images.
On my 27' iMac with retina they still look a bit soft, even after clearing everything. On my Windows PC with 34" LG wide screen they look just fine. Strange huh..

@Matthew
The image quality is set to 82%

Re: Images appear less sharp

I just looked at your Showcase album again. The images there are still at 900px. When you republished, did you check to make sure that in Lightroom Settings, the "Push metadata without updating existing photos" checkbox is unchecked?

Re: Images appear less sharp

Push metadata without updating existing photos is indeed unchecked.. just marked the images again for publication and publishing them now again.

Re: Images appear less sharp

Hmm. They're still at 960 x 640
Are you publishing them to this Backlight 2 site or perhaps a current production site?

Re: Images appear less sharp

I have now deleted the album incl. content and recreated the album and re-uploaded the images. Everything seems to be fine now.
Thanks for your help guys, appreciated! Now I can continue designing.
