Unable to enter a 'tab' character into Page Copy in Designer

I have been experimenting with Markdown and http and css etc. One thing I discovered I could not do when making my notes for myself was to insert a tab to produce a code block as per notes my by Rod Barbee in one of his useful articles. When I use the tab key during the writing of my page copy text the cursor jumps forward but not in the normal way. Any advice appreciated.

Hmm... I don't recall that article. Could you be thinking of Mark Gruber's Markdown guide?

Anyway, try writing the text in a plain text editor and pasting it in to the copy block.

Looks like could use four spaces instead of a tab

That's how forms work on the Internet -- the tab key moves you to the next field. It's best/easiest to author your content in a text-editor, then copy/paste into Backlight.

Thanks both. Rod it was this item I was using, specifically the text file you made available for download. I used it to try out the Markdown tricks.

Its a fine way to learn with the Backlight designer on one screen modifying and saving the text strings and on another screen the auto-updating page on the target site showing in almost real time what effect each change made. I think the four spaces should do the trick for me.

I love the Backlight architecture, it does lend itself to more adventurous exploration and development. I hated waiting for Lightroom Web Module to digest changes to pages and then if I was lucky give me some clue on what would appear after I finally exported and the FTP it to the server. Often the result was not what I required and I would have to go back and try something else. Soon one would tire of this and then settle for a less than optimum result. So a very big thanks to all involved in providing this splendid development tool.

I'd forgotten about that post. Probably got purged from memory smile
