Massive confusion setting up pricing profiles

Trying to set my cart up with two different scenarios.
First one is to have a customer click on an image, then select what size image then add to cart.  This is easy- just select 'default' in the Uniform Pricing Profile Name.  Works perfectly.
The other (I work with lots of realtors, architects, builders etc.) is to have them be able to click on 'Purchase Images', then have it go to the cart with a preselected package that I setup.  This has been the big hurdle.

The problem I have is trying to figure out how to do this (and trust me- I've poured through the documents).
Trying to add an item under the Packages page only allows for Photographic Prints and not Digital Downloads.

Feeling extremely confused, and I'm pretty damn tech savvy!

correct. currently, only physical products can be added to packages. (And I don't know enough about how the cart system works to know if it's possible to add a digital download  option to packages or if it would be a coding nightmare)

I suppose you could create a physical product and call it "digital version" or something. You'd then be able to add it to a package but you'd have to fulfill delivery manually. Either via email or just including any files on a disc with the print delivery.

Re: Massive confusion setting up pricing profiles

Well, that's what I was fearing.
Sounds like a possible feature request?

Starting to feel like I wasted my money...

Re: Massive confusion setting up pricing profiles

If I recall correctly, this limitation had to do with matching the existence of a virtual file at the point of adding the package-items-to-assign options when trying to assign photos within the gallery.  This limitation shouldn't be a problem if we limit digital downloads to packages to cart settings with 'offline digital downloads' enabled.

I've been able to make a change that allows digital downloads to be part of packages, so long that offline digital downloads are enabled.  This works fine for the admin and gallery portions of the flow, but isn't yet working on checkout - the checkout process does not notice the digital purchases made within packages.  I'll look further into this and let you know how it goes.

Re: Massive confusion setting up pricing profiles

I have this working now.  The code changes are substantial, and not likely to be incorporated into a release soon.  Let me know if you would like me to send you an updated cart package with support for digital downloads, and I will email it to you.

Re: Massive confusion setting up pricing profiles

For your information, there are three limitations to the updated cart:

  • Digital Purchases can only be added if Enable Offline Downloads is enabled.  You can still use digital downloads in the automated way via Publisher, however as a fallback, you need to be able to fulfil digital purchases from the admin interface for any files that didn't exist at the time of purchase.

  • There is no check for assigning the same image more than once to a package

  • Digital purchases can only be downloaded after an order is paid or manually updated to paid by admin, even if the package was free.

Re: Massive confusion setting up pricing profiles

We have uploaded Cart 3.1.4 BETA that adds support for digital purchases in packages.

This involved some very significant changes, so for now remains in beta.  Please try it out and provide any feedback that you may have.
This version checks for already-existing purchases across adding individual items and assigning items to packages.  You should only be able to have one copy of a digital purchase with the same purchase attributes for an individual image in the cart.

Jim, you can download it using the link in either your original download email or any update notice emails you may have.

or you can use the order lookup page: https://theturninggate.fetchapp.com/orders

Re: Massive confusion setting up pricing profiles

Sorry to bug you about this, but I've spent hours going through the documentation and forums trying to find out how to get packages to work.  I'm trying to have specific galleries point to an individual package price, but can't get it to work.  I've set up the package profile name to point to my package settings in the cart settings, but it won't work.
I can't waste any more time on trying to figure it out, so thanks for the help!

Re: Massive confusion setting up pricing profiles

I'd not really used the Package feature before so this was a little new to me.

Go to Cart Admin > Products > Packages

Click Add Package and give it a name and description.
Click on Manage Items next to the title of the new package
Click Add Item and choose an item from the Product drop-down and enter the quantity of those items that will be available in the package.
Repeat as needed.

After you're done, go to Pricing > Pricing Schemes and click on Add Pricing Schemes (bottom of page)
Give it a name and scroll down to the bottom of the page where your packages are listed and choose the packages you want to offer.
Click on the Add Pricing Scheme button.

If using Publisher, create an album, enable cart, and enter the pricing scheme name that contains the package.

If exporting and uploading galleries, make sure the pricing scheme is added to Output Settings > Shopping Cart Integration: Uniform Pricing Profile Name.

Make sure that Display Add-Package-to-Cart Button is checked in your publisher template or your exported gallery.

The one album I've tested so far with the updated Beta Cart exhibited a problem on checkout. Could be my error but I'm waiting to hear from Ben and will test some more as time allows.

maybe you can post a link to a gallery/album that's not working right?

Re: Massive confusion setting up pricing profiles

Just looked at your ttg-be cart settings through guest access.
try completing the pricing for your Standard Shipping

what's strange is that if you click on the Cart button in the large image, you can start adding items to the package. So also try turning on the cart buttons for the grid as well.

Re: Massive confusion setting up pricing profiles

I've also had a look via guest access.  I'm entirely confused trying to figure it out.  Product options named with a package name, the number 15 in a couple of places.  Do you mind if I edit your settings to try and get it working?

15 is a download package I want to set up for clients, along with a multitude of others like that.

Re: Massive confusion setting up pricing profiles

Hi Jim, do you have a test gallery still online that you're trying to hook up to the cart?  I'd need to be able to look at a gallery to try out different cart settings.

H Jim, I've had a go at getting packages working but with no success.  It's baffling.
