#1 Re: Backlight 3 Support » Website down -- 500 Internal Server Error » 2020-06-14 09:05:24

Thank you, Ben, for your help via email.

For the benefit of others, I thought I should add that my problem--still not solved as of today--is not related to Backlight.  It's a problem with a server maintenance upgrade that my hosting service is trying to resolve.

My server is running PHP 7.2 (ea-php72).

The other choices are:
PHP 7.3 (ea-php73)
inherit

Perhaps BL3 need PHP 7.3???

I hate making changes without someone who understands this stuff tells me to, so I will await further advice.

Thank you.

I went to http://www.johnblaustein.com/backlight/installer/ and reinstalled BL.  The page said the installation was successful.

I then clicked the link on the install page to go to http://www.johnblaustein.com/backlight/.  I still get the 500 Error.

http://www.johnblaustein.com/backlight/admin returns the same 500 Error.

Others here have had issues that revolved around which version of PHP the server is using.  Can you tell me which version BL needs and I will check it is available?  Of course, my problem may have nothing to do with PHP version.

I am waiting to hear from my web host support and/or from Ben.

I upgraded to BL3 in early June.  It's been working fine until a day or so ago.

I am concerned about reinstalling since it may overwrite the /custom and /data folders.  (I made a backup just now.)

I'll see what the host support says and contact Ben if needed.

I will run the BL installer again.  The link you sent shows BL2, but I assume that's OK.

In the meantime, I have created a support ticket with my hosting service and they are looking into it.  If I get nowhere with them, I will send Ben my login info.

Thank you again.

Rod,

I downloaded and unzipped the installer.  I copied index.php and .htaccess into the root directory of my site, replacing the two files that were there previously.  Unfortunately, I am still getting the 500 Internal Server Error.

Is there anything else related to Backlight 3 that I can try?  Or is this now something I need to pursue further with my web host?  (I should note that BL3 worked just fine when I updated in early June.  This problem just began in the past couple of days.)

OK, understood.  I’ll do this tomorrow.

Thanks again,

Hi Rod,

Thank you for the quick/instant reply.

No, I have not tried uploading the index.php file from the Backlight-3-Installer.  Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but can you please tell me where to download the Backlight-3-Installer?

I do know how to upload files with FileZilla, so I'll do that when I get the installer.

Hi,

I can't access my site--johnblaustein.com.  I get an error: 500 Internal Server Error.  Same happens when trying:
http://www.johnblaustein.com/backlight/admin/

I contacted my webhost and they said there is a problem with the index.php file.

I don't know what do to.  Can you help?  I have a backup of the custom and data folders from right before I upgraded to BL3.

Thank you.

#11 Backlight 2 Support » Lightroom Publisher - current version number » 2020-01-17 02:46:40

Hi,

I know that the LR Publisher Plugin does not change often, but it would be very helpful if the current version number showed on the Modules Page just as current versions of everything else are shown.  Perhaps it could be just to the right of the link "Download Lightroom Publisher Plugin."

Thanks!

I'd like to add my thanks, too, to the Backlight team!

Seasons Greetings to all......

#13 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Is it possible to copy BL2 site to iPad for offline viewing? » 2019-06-15 08:14:14

Rod,

I said "simple!"  <g>  Just Googling virtual servers is already way over my head.  I'm with Jim and would love to see BL provide its current simplicity to offline site viewing on an iPad.  I'm sure nothing on the programming end is simple, so I will continue to show my site to others on the iPad only when on WiFi.

Thanks your your reply, however.

Hi all,

Is there a (simple) way to copy my site to my iPad for viewing offline?  I use BL2 with LR.

Thank you!

Matt & Ben,

Congratulations on the 12th anniversary of The Turning Gate!  Against substantial odds--competing with the likes of Adobe--you have established TTG and Backlight as a major contender in website software for photographers.  You have made it possible for photographers with virtually no technical expertise to create their own, highly customizable websites.  And for those of us for whom Lightroom is an integral part of our workflow, your awareness of our preference to integrate LR and BL is most welcome.

Thank you for a terrific, very fairly priced product as well as for responsive, friendly support.  Here's to another 12 years... and more!

#17 Re: Backlight 2 Support » LR Publisher 4.0.7 - couple of questions » 2019-02-19 10:26:35

Hi Rod,

1)  Yes, the publish service has the description TTG.

2)  It looks like you can select multiple album sets in Publisher and then right-click (Windows) and select Mark to Republish, followed by Publish Now.  Unless I'm missing something, all photos can be selected and published with very few clicks.  Of course, multiple albums need to be nested within album sets in order to minimize the clicks needed to republish everything.

Hi,

1)  I have installed LR Publisher 4.0.7.  Under LR Publish Services > TTG Publisher > Edit Settings, in the left column, Publish Services, TTG Publisher is listed, but it says "(not saved)."  When I click Save, a dialog asks if I want to Republish All Photos, or Leave As-Is.  If I select Leave As-Is, TTG Publisher still says "(not saved)."  If I select Republish, all photos are marked to be republished.  After clicking Publish Now for each album, TTG Publisher still says "(not saved)."

Should TTG Publisher always say "(not saved)?"  Why doesn't clicking Save change the listing to saved?

2)  Is there an easy way to mark all photos to be republished at once?  And then is there a way to start republishing all photos with one click, rather than having to select each album or album set?  If I create a Publisher album set called All Albums (for example), can I put all of my existing album sets and albums into that All Albums set and then mark the whole set to be republished, followed by Publish Now?  I don't see any other way to mark and publish all photos at once.

Thanks for your help with this.

#20 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Content on Home Page and Galleries » 2019-01-15 10:02:03

Hi Rod,

I'm curious if you have a sample page for the BWRAQ preset.  I'm curious what it is.

Thanks!

#21 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Can I start an album as slideshow on "homepage" ? » 2019-01-13 03:39:14

I struggled a bit with this same question when I first set up my site using Backlight 2.  I thought I'd need to create pages and then imbed a slideshow within each page.  That is not the case.  Each of my pages is a Galleria album, and this a very easy way to set things up (assuming other functions aren't needed).

The home page is set up as a slideshow that runs automatically and has no controls.  The other pages don't run automatically, but do have all the needed controls.  One big advantage here is that the site is fully responsive and sizes perfectly on all devices and screen sizes.

Hope this helps.

#22 Re: General » Thanks for Backlight 2 » 2018-12-24 01:33:02

I'd also like to thank Matt, Ben, Rod and Daniel for a terrific product and wonderful support.

After struggling for years with FrontPage, Dreamweaver and Muse, I took the leap to Backlight 2 about ten months ago.  What a treat!  With a little (or a lot) of help from Matt and Rod, I was up and running with my BL2 site in less than a week.  I could not be happier with Backlight and how it works with Lightroom.

Happy New Year to the Backlight community!  And thanks again for Backlight 2!

#24 Re: General » Backlight Hosting? » 2018-10-04 09:47:35

I can highly recommend Westhost.  I have been with them for many years and never encountered a single problem.  My Backlight site works perfectly.  When developing my BL site, I easily set up a sub-domain into which I placed all of the BL files.  Once my site was ready to "go live," it was easy to migrate out of the sub-domain into the main one.

#25 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Tokens displaying in BL2 » 2018-09-19 09:27:09

Ben and Matt posted BL2 updates today, as well as updates to Galleria and Theater.

See:  http://community.theturninggate.net/vie … hp?id=9027

The token issue has been fixed.  Nice!
