This is a screenshot of my Backlight homepage - how would you get to "Publisher" or "Quick Settings" from here, without going to Advance Settings...?

Finally!

I followed your steps again, and this time CLICKED THE SAVE SETTINGS box at the very bottom of the page.
My OCD requires instructions to be complete, and assume that I'm an idiot. (apparently I'm one of those people.)

Thanks!

As a note, those initial settings can be viewed again by visiting Backlight > Settings, clicking on  Show Advanced Settings, then Edit Settings.  Set 'Show Quick Settings' to 'yes', then logout and back in again.

There's no need to do that though, as the 'Quick Settings' are all available elsewhere, such as can be seen with the API Key setting, under Publisher.

I tried that, and I still don't see a field to enter the API key, like it shows in the video....
Nor do I see "publisher" on any of the pages (Settings, Edit Settings)

Mac OS 10.12.1
Backlight 1.2.3
Browser: Chrome Version 62.0.3202.94

In the Backlight First Look video, the heading "Publisher" comes after Vendor Email, yet on my Backlight Settings page, the heading "Contact forms" coms directly after Vendor Email ... so there's no API key field.

In the video, it's referring to the initial set up, whereas I've already set it up, but I cant remember the API Key, so the LR plugin (v1.2.3) cant be authenticated...

Thanks!

I cant seem to find it- I even clicked on "show advanced settings"...

Where/how do you change the API key in Backlight?

I can see none. Looks to me that the API key is stored in the database.

same with admin credentials

(both of which can be changed from within Backlight anyway)

or were you looking to change something else?

Hey Ben,

here's the error code I mentioned:
- - -

mkdir(): Permission denied|#0 [internal function]: ErrorHandler::handleError(2, 'mkdir(): Permis...', '/usr/www/users/...', 144, Array) #1 /usr/www/users/jcoleman/jessecolemanphotography.com/backlight/framework/helpers/GenericApplicationHelper.php(144): mkdir('./backlight/fra...') #2 /usr/www/users/jcoleman/jessecolemanphotography.com/backlight/framework/helpers/AuthHelper.php(59): GenericApplicationHelper::makeDataDirectoryIfNeeded('./backlight/fra...') #3 /usr/www/users/jcoleman/jessecolemanphotography.com/backlight/framework/init.php(123): AuthHelper::handleSession() #4 /usr/www/users/jcoleman/jessecolemanphotography.com/index.php(19): require_once('/usr/www/users/...') #5 {main}|URL: /index.php

I'll email you my ftp info.

TBH, having someone walk you through the set up would be really helpful for those of us who know just enough to be dangerous.

For example, I had to search the forums to learn that the API Key required at the beginning could be any word/text (if I understood correctly) because i didn't see that info with the install directions. The directions only mention the API Key in regards to the LR publishing module.

Maybe a video of the installation from square one?

Hey Dan, I'm also in SF, and just a head's up, I might need your help too! I haven't started yet, but it would be great to have a seasoned Backlight user nearby to get me off to a good start. Not so much in the design department, but more to keep me from making technical errors.

Compensation is a given (living in SF ain't cheap!), let's discuss when the time comes.

Thanks!

#10 Re: Backlight Support » Forgot my admin password to the Backlight localhost install » 2017-10-20 08:06:21

Thanks Ben,

I'll send you my ftp access either later tonight or friday evening.

FYI, I did have trouble getting it to install properly; initially, instead of the log in page, I got a paragraph's worth of error code, so I contacted my ISP's support. He took a look at it while I was on the phone and could not figure out why it was not loading properly. (I can send you the error message later, it's on my computer at home) A short time later I noticed that the page was loading properly and then I got an email from the ISP's tech support:

"After our phone conversation, I took another look around. I found that there was an ownership conflict, and that is why the software was unable to create and new directories. Everything is owned by your user, 'jcoleman' and denied Apache's user 'nobody'. I setup suEXEC for you so Apache can run under your username, and it appears to be working now, albeit the software needs configured."

So my plan was to back up the ".htaccess" file, I believe IT had to modify that file, but not sure (it's mostly greek to me) and reinstall the rest of the Backlight files.

Thanks again!

That's fine- I haven't even started uploading images yet. This time I'll be sure to write down my name/password!

Thanks!

#12 Re: Backlight Support » Forgot my admin password to the Backlight localhost install » 2017-10-20 00:43:10

If the above mentioned methods don't work, can I simply reinstall? will that reset the password?

Thanks

#13 Re: Backlight Support » Forgot my admin password to the Backlight localhost install » 2017-10-19 14:36:47

Have you successfully navigated to backlight/data/admin in your FTP program?  If you refresh the directory, can you see the file password.txt?

I have now, thank you!
(Somehow I missed the full trail, and was looking in backlight/admin, not backlight/data/admin)

However, I entered the login/pswd from the password.txt file and I'm still getting "incorrect username or password" ...

I did enter the "delete password" string earlier as well... which would make one think the default "admin/ttg****" would work... but it doesn't.

#14 Re: Backlight Support » Forgot my admin password to the Backlight localhost install » 2017-10-19 13:24:39

New account, more passwords, late night = i cant remember what the account name or password is...

• Tried the retrieval method, but unable to find a file called "password" on my ftp server. My ISP tech had a doozy of a time figuring out how get the .htaccess file to play ball with their servers. But I digress.

• Tried the deletion method/url, then I even cleared the cache, history and relaunched chrome, then tried the default admin / ttg8888 but I'm still locked out...

Thanks in advance!
