#1 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Very slow upload - any help? » 2019-03-12 08:03:26

Thank you for your reply.  The USB port is supposed to be 3.0 although its not blue! I don't think the SSD external drive is wireless but I will certainly check and I will also investigate the abg / n connection as I've never heard of that before so will have to look into it.

Thanks again,

Aisling.

Hi Guys,

I am trying to upload images from my first event since last year and it is much much slower than before.  Last year I moved the LR catalog from a microSd card to an external SSD drive thinking this would help speed it up. I am working on a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 so space is an issue so I can't keep either the catalog or images on the computer.  I have moved the images I am trying to upload onto the same SSD drive but that made no difference (I thought the other drive may have been slowing it).  I have borrowed a router so the broadband upload speed is much faster than what I had last year but the images are taking ages.  The SSD drive connects with a USB-C port which my computer doesn't have so I have an adapter to USB-A - could this be what is slowing it down?  or have you any other ideas?  I have over 2000 images which I need to upload asap!

I recently updated to Backlight 2 so this is the first upload since - even setting up the gallery folders in advance took much longer than before.  I am publishing from LR and use Bluehost.

Kind regards,

Aisling.

P.S. I have since copied my catalog, LR, TTG plug in and images (the ones I'm trying to upload) to another computer and the upload is back to normal so I'm guessing its a problem with the cables/external drives.  I really need a mobile system so if anyone has any solution other than a new expensive laptop with 2TB storage that would be great!

Hi Matthew,
Apologies for the delay in replying - thanks for your reply, it is reassuring although I hope I never have to upload all my photos a second time as it would take forever with our broadband speed!

Thanks again, Aisling.

Hi Guys,

My site is running great so far although I've yet to finish updating it to Backlight (work in progress!).  Its hosted with Bluehost as recommended and due for renewal soon so I'm wondering do you recommend the Site Backup & Restore Pro or is the Basic sufficient?  Before switching to Backlight from CE4 I tried to use the Pro to download my files to have them as a back up but it wouldn't work and they told me it was probably because the site is too big (there are lots of galleries and photos!) so to just use ftp instead.  So now its up for renewal and I'm not sure if its worth paying extra for?  They have told me the Pro will allow customers to restore databases and individual files - is this something I may need to be able to do?
Any advice would be appreciated as I don't really understand it all so don't know what I need in case I ever have a problem with the site.

Thanks again for all your work I'm looking forward to playing around more with Backlight when I get the time!

Regards,
Aisling.

#6 Re: Backlight Support » Low resolution digital downloads » 2017-06-11 20:12:54

I think I'll go with the reduce to 640 and don't worry about it!!  Thanks a mill!

#7 Re: Backlight Support » Low resolution digital downloads » 2017-06-11 19:59:51

Thanks Rod for such a quick reply.  If I lower the 'photos for purchase' down to 640px will this still be sufficient to show clearly on Facebook news feed (my understanding is 720 or 960 is recommended)?.  If I go lower than 640px it goes red - it this because it is not recommended or it won't work?

Thanks again, Aisling.

Hi Guys,

I have just upgraded my website from CE4 to Backlight.  Its a great system and much easier to make changes than working through Lightroom's web module - thanks a million!

I have a problem that it actually works too well!  I do event photography so many people want the low resolution digital images to put up on Facebook etc.  I have it set up so I can sell low res digital images and high res (Thanks Rod for how to set it up!), the low res image is through Publisher and the high res I upload after purchase.  The problem I have is the low res digital image is still such good quality that it will print (I have only tested at 6x4) fairly clearly.  I have tried reducing the image settings from 960 to 720 under image settings in both the album template and cart settings.  Is there a way to set the resolution at 72dpi so it looks sharp on screen but they can't print it ?  I really want to be able to upload directly from Publisher rather than having to export in LR with a set resolution and then upload manually.

I don't know if what I'm asking is even possible so any help would be appreciated - basically I need an image that will show clearly on screen but they can't print (72dpi rather than 300dpi?)!

Thanks again for a great product!

Aisling.

#9 Re: Backlight Support » Problem migrating albums from CE4 to Backlight » 2017-06-09 16:02:22

I think I have it sorted!! smile Thank you both for your replies.  I think I was working in logged into the wrong 'Backlight' online (wrong url) - just my lack of knowledge about website development - not an error on Backlight's part or anything like that!

Thanks again, Aisling

#10 Re: Backlight Support » Problem migrating albums from CE4 to Backlight » 2017-06-09 15:54:36

Hi Rod,

Thank you for your reply.  I am pretty sure they are on the same level.  I have public_domain (for the aisling site), inside that is a folder 'annaharvey' (for the second site, with another domain) and inside that there are now three folders - backlight and the old galleries and ttg-be.  There is a publisher folder inside ttg-be and yes I used CE4 Publisher to upload the albums to the site from the start.
I had deleted the test gallery from the development site before I started the move and check they were gone as instructed.
The one thing I have got confused about now is how to direct backlight to the 'annaharvey' site/folder and how set up the two sites.  I think maybe that's where the problem is but I don't really know what I'm doing (only following instructions!) and have tried anything I can think of! (I have tried changing the url in both publisher and backlight but it hasn't worked)

Thanks again, Aisling.

#11 Re: Backlight Support » Problem migrating albums from CE4 to Backlight » 2017-06-09 08:22:24

I think I may have found a source of the problem but I don't know how to fix it.  Initially I set up a sub-folder to test on and to get into the Backlight online I still have to use the following url:
http://www.aislingdeverellphotography.c … t_settings

See the 'developmentsite-Annaharvey' folder.  I have updated the company name and company url in Backlight according to the instructions but it still seems to be going to the 'developmentsite' folder rather than just 'annaharvey'.  I have two websites with www.annaharvey.photos running as a sub-domain through www.aislingdeverellphotography.com.  It is the annaharvey.photos site I am trying to upgrade to Backlight (I'll do the other one later).  I have updated the company name and url to aislingdeverellphotography.com as that is the public_html on the server - is that correct?  The backlight, ttg-be and galleries folders are all in the 'annaharvey' folder on the server (inside the aislingdeverellphotography.com).  I'm so confused at this stage I'm lost so any help would be appreciated!

(I have tried running the migration on the old PC but that didn't work either)

#12 Re: Backlight Support » Problem migrating albums from CE4 to Backlight » 2017-06-09 07:38:17

The ttg-be/ folder is still in the server, on the same level as the backlight folder

#13 Re: Backlight Support » Problem migrating albums from CE4 to Backlight » 2017-06-09 07:37:05

I have the catalog on an external hard drive - would I be better to go back to the old PC and try to run it on that?  I'll have to install the new Publisher but that should be ok - I think?!

#14 Re: Backlight Support » Problem migrating albums from CE4 to Backlight » 2017-06-09 07:29:11

I still have access to ttg-be on line (not sure if that's what you mean) and tried to change the API key in case that was an issue but it made no difference

#15 Re: Backlight Support » Problem migrating albums from CE4 to Backlight » 2017-06-09 07:27:49

Thanks for reply!
The (new) Publisher is working fine in Lightroom and when I uploaded an album to a test site it worked fine.  When I went to run the migration I got the error 'CE4 Publisher was not found' so I installed a copy of the (old) CE4 Publisher plugin in LR plugin manager but I'm still getting an error when I try to migrate. I don't know what to try next?  The Publisher is not 'missing' in LR now - I had no problem installing the new Publisher and all worked fine until now!

Hi Guys,

I'm in the middle of moving my website from CE4 to Backlight.  I have been following the instructions at
http://ttg-tips-and-tricks.barbeephoto. … backlight/ but I have hit a wall and may have made a mistake!  When I try to run the 'migration tool for Publisher' I get and error - 'CE4 Publisher not found'???

I should explain before I started I moved my catalog from my PC to a laptop.  As the CE4 publisher was 'missing' on the laptop I installed the new Publisher plugin that came with Backlight as I understood this was taking over and would still manage the CE4 albums.  I don't know if this might be related to the problem I have now.

I have over 30000 photos on this website so I really don't want to have to upload them all again from scratch! Please can you help me ?

Kind regards,

Aisling.

#17 Re: CE4 Cart » How to turn off cart temporarily? » 2016-11-15 05:45:22

Thank you!  My mistake I understand now - I think smile

#18 Re: CE4 Cart » How to turn off cart temporarily? » 2016-11-15 05:24:48

Thanks for that - I'll go do some study and see if I can figure it out smile

I've just exported a new pages template with changes to the page copy text on the home page and galleries page about the holiday dates.  While doing that I noticed the 'Shopping Cart Integration' box - if I uncheck that and export a new pages template and upload it would it disable the cart or would I mess everything up?

Sorry about all the questions but its working so well I'm afraid to mess with it when I don't really know what I'm doing and can't remember all I had learned before!!

#19 Re: CE4 Cart » How to turn off cart temporarily? » 2016-11-15 04:45:03

Thanks for the replies and suggestions - I'll go read up about phplugins as I have no idea what they are or how they work!!  I'm pretty sure I ticked the 'Enable PHPlugins' box when setting it up as recommended but haven't done anything since so will go do some research!

#20 Re: CE4 Cart » How to turn off cart temporarily? » 2016-11-14 05:59:37

Hi Rod,
Thank you very much for such a quick reply! Yes I am using Publisher. I was hoping for a method which avoids editing each album individually as I have probably over 100 albums on the website so it would take me ages to do each album and I would also probably end up missing some or something!  I'll have a look at disabling the PayPal Gateway.
If I go into the Cart Admin in the back end and change the current Pricing Scheme so that I remove all the products (high res digital images and prints) except the low res digital images (which are not a problem over the holidays as the website will send them automatically) - go on holidays and then come back and edit the pricing scheme again to put them back in - would this work?  Its so long since I set it all up I've forgotten a lot of how I did it so I'm afraid to change anything!!

Regarding the notice, the phplugins sound like what I'm looking for but I haven't tried doing anything with phplugins before so might have to do some research there to learn more anout what they are and how to use them!!

Thanks again,

Aisling.

Hi Guys,
I have been using CE4 Cart for about a year for an event photography website and its been working great.  I'm looking for advice on the simplest and safest way to turn it off temporarily for a holiday period and then turn it back on again after the holiday.  I don't want orders to come in over the holidays when I am not in a position to send prints out for weeks.  I'm hoping you can advise me the best way to go about this so I don't mess up what I have by messing around with settings!!
I also want to put up a notice on each page if possible that orders cannot be taken/processed during certain dates - is there an easy way to do this without having to re-publish each gallery as there are too many galleries and photos for this to be an option!
Any help appreciated smile
Kind regards,
Aisling.

Hi Guys,

After months of staring at the computer screen my new website is ready for the new season!  Its still really a work in progress (I suppose it always will be!) so any feedback would be really appreciated.  I have two sites: www.aislingdeverellphotography.com as my personal site and www.annaharvey.photos as the event photography site which will get most of the traffic.

To TTG - thanks a mill for developing such brilliant systems!! It is great being able to publish from within Lightroom so I am hoping to save hours spent watermarking / processing etc after a busy event!

I'm sure there is probably loads more I could and should do to improve the sites but all this web development is new to me so I've had a lot to learn!

Thanks again,

Aisling.

Thanks a mill!!  I think I have it working now - I still don't really understand where the photos are but I think its working!!

#25 Re: CE4 Publisher » Setting up for digital downloads » 2015-10-23 07:30:30

Thanks Rod, I had read that and it helped a lot I just confused with the folders part but I'll go through it again now that I understand a bit more and try again!
