#1 Re: CE4 Client Response Gallery » Feature Request - Search » 2015-03-11 04:23:18

Okay, thanks for your answer.

Can you think of any "handmade" solution? For example creating a seperate sub-domain for a customer and using publisher to create several albums. Now using some kind of html, php, javascript or anything else to password protect the whole sub-domain with its albums.

Would then search be still functioning?

Hello,

although already asked in my other thread. As I've just read in the latest blog post if using CRG with Publisher the images are managed within a database. So, wouldn't it be possible to implement Search to CRG?

For most of my "smaller" clients search will be of no use, but some larger clients with years of images and constant need for specific images will really benefit of search. And of course it would be a huge time safer for me smile

I need both the search of CE4 Gallery / Publisher and the Client Management of CRG.

So, will there be hope for me or do I just have to make the best of what TTG already offers?

Thanks,
Daniel

Yes.

Perfect, than I'll be able to create individual gallerie-sets for each customer.

I was quite fond of the Idea using CRG with its possibility to select images and give direct feedback. But as I cannot get both CRG and searchable galleries I have to make a decission and I'll go for the searchable galleries.

If search would be added to CRG CE4 I'd go for both CE4 Gallery and CE4 CRG.

@ Matt: will there be any chance that search will be implemented to CRG CE4? As already said I'd go for both and start building the Site with CE3 CRG otherwise I just go for the Publishing Bundle and build the site with CE4 Gallery.

A long time ago, in a CE version far away, user Monte Trumbull came up with a way to add search to his site. See this thread: http://community.theturninggate.net/post/3730/#p3730

Sounds interesting, but as I don't know whether I get it working with CRG I'm not willing to spent the money.

No. Not with the current Cart. (I don't know if there's any plan to add this. It's never been requested before, so I doubt it)

Just to let you know, no version of CRG has ever been cart enabled. So don't be surprised if CE4 CRG doesn't support the cart. Cart enabled galleries and CRG perform different tasks.

CE4 Client Response Gallery will not include Cart support. Nor should its galleries be searchable; client galleries are to be handled individually.

You've got me wrong. I didn't want to enable CE4 Cart for the Client Response Gallery. I'd like to use CE4 Cart with CE4 Gallery as alternative for CRG (if it won't be searchable with CE4). But if with Cart enabled it will always be necessary to select the digital download after adding a photo to the cart it will again be uncomfortable for my clients to "select" images.
If you say that CE4 CRG will not be searchable that also does mean it will not be supported by CE4 Publisher, correct?

To offer my clients the ability to search their galleries is a main feature I need.

I believe password protected albums are the exception. And those albums you specifically omit from search

You (and your clients) probably don't want the general public or other clients being able to search client galleries. (Search is site-wide, not album specific)

Of course the general public shouldn't be able to search the client galleries. Sorry if I mix up the terms. I expected that if I create a separate sub-domain for each customer (e.g. customer1.domain.de, customer2.domain.de etc) and create an individual instance of the Publisher within lightroom that the search will only work within the sub-domain. Does it work like this?

Regarding password protection my intention was not to protect each single gallery but the access to the gallery index page of each individual customer.

Hello,

I was quite busy the last months.

All Publisher controlled albums are searchable

Okay, If understood correctly to make a gallery searchable I'll need to use Publisher. Each gallery which was published with Publisher will be searchable.

CE4 Publisher should be paired with a supported TTG image gallery; it is useless on its own. The publisher currently works with:

  • CE4 Gallery

  • CE4 Stage

According to this description CRGs cannot be published through CE4 Publisher, thus they are not searchable.

So, will Publisher support CE4 CRG?

Generell question regarding search. As I'll need a search box / text field to type in the search keywords will this box be enabled and placed via options in Publisher? Couldn't find anything in the docomentation.

I guess that may depend on what you mean. Do you want CRGs to be searchable or did you want CRG to act as a template for the search results?

I want all CRGs to be searchable. I have several clients for which I'd like to setup separete sections (Password protected) with several gallerys. And each customer should be able to perform a search across "their" gallerys. Within the displayed result they should be able to select images and download the selected images or send an Email to request the images if a download isn't possible. But I do not really understand what you mean by "act as a template for the search results".

The only way to "select" image within CE4 Gallery is to connect it with the Cart

As I also want to use the cart to sell photos this could be an option. As already said I want to keep things as comfortable as possible and don't want my customers to perform 50 clicks to download 15 photos. Within the demo gallery of CE4 Cart a popup opens to specify e.g. the size of the desired print. Is it possible to hide this popup and just add a download version to the cart. Thus the customers would be able to simply click on the cart icon to "select" the images they want to download  without having to select the digital download afterwards and click on ok again. So at least two clicks saved.

Hope that either Matt or Ben can give some answers if CE4 CRG will be able to support my needs as described above.

And one last question: If I purchase CE3 CRG right now will their be a discount for upgrading to CE4?

Thanks again for your help and support!

Thanks so far for all your answers!

The Search feature displays the results using a template from CE4 Gallery only. And all images available to be searched must be in Albums created by TTG CE4 Publisher.

As the search feature is by far the most important one for me I guess I'll go for the CE4 Gallery plus the Publisher. You're stating that all images must be in Albums. Just to be sure. Does the result of a search displays images in different albums or am I only able to perform a search within one album?

Second question: Is it planned to implement the search feature into the Client response gallery and if yes when could this be expected? I'm just trying to evaluate which products I need to purchase and whether it makes sense to purchase CE4 Gallery and Publisher now or to wait if the search feature will be implementet in CE4 Client Response Gallery within the next month.

Storing selections between searches is not a feature with the current Search.

If I got it right currently their cannot be made any selections based on a search as the selection of images is a feature of the client response gallery and not of the CE4 Gallery. Or is there also a possibility to select images within the CE4 Gallery.

Once again, the User needs to be able to select several images (based on a search or not) and download them via one click comfortably. It would be hard for the user to right click, save, right click save ... 20 or so images. Then the Client Response Gallery would be more comfortable for the user. Just selecting the images and he will get them mailed. But then their would be the disadvantage of loosing the search feature.

Search accepts required and omitted terms. Searching for this should work:

Thanks Ben, this is perfect!

Hello,

I'm a photographer from germany and looking for a gallery like your client response gallery since a long time. But prior to purchasing the gallery I want to ask some questions.

I've read in another thread that the CE4 Gallery does offer a keyword search. Is this feature limited to the CE4 gallery or is it also available for the Client Response Gallery?

What Do I need? Since almost 7 years I'm the photographer of a falconry. Thus the archive includes thousands of photos. Currently, if they are looking for a special photo I get a short description and I try to find some photos which do fit their requirements. But this isn't really comfortable as we will loose much time if the search has to be re-done if they aren't happy with the selection.

So, I'm looking for a web based gallery which enables the User to search for the keywords within the metadata. This gallery I want to put on a password protected area of my website.
I do need the same search possibilities as in lightroom. For example: I want to see all photos of "Harris Hawks", in "flight", with "public" in the background, but WITHOUT any "falconer".

Then the User should be able to select the photos he likes - the selection should be stored between several different searches - and download them with just one click. A plus would be to get informed about the downloaded photos.

Other required functionality would be that the user can select the photos and send a request for e.g. full resolution to me. But as I've understood this feature is part of the gallery.

If the client response gallery does offer these functionlities I'll buy it straightaway.

Thanks
Daniel
