#1 CE4 Auto Index » Update Auto-Index on web server » 2017-09-20 23:44:57

Hi,

To modify my website, for instance if the menu items need to be changed so they are consistent across the entire website do I I need to modify Auto-Index, CE Pages and Gallery separately ?

After modifying AutoIndex is it necessary to republish all galleries or can the existing galleries be retained

Within Lightroom do I need separate Templates (listed in left hand panel) for each of the CE Modules or can one template be used to work with any of the modules.

Is there a preferred sequence to carry out such changes ie Pages>Auto-Index>Galleries ?

#2 Re: CE4 Gallery » Some Galleries Returning Error in web browser » 2017-09-15 18:39:05

Just to keep you updated - I downloaded the latest ttg-be and uploaded the new version of  parsedown.php to my web server and the galleries are now accessible. But the ones that are password protected only seem to respond to the user password assigned they do not work with the master password or guest password ?

Sorry been a while since last updated/exported templates can you send me link to correct documentation showing how ?

Is the user passwords set in ttg-be/admin the same as the master password ?

I notice that my ttg-be shows as v 2.03 and the latest download is 2.05a - should I install this as is the file says NOT TO if website is working ?

Thanks for your patience and help.

#3 Re: CE4 Gallery » Some Galleries Returning Error in web browser » 2017-09-15 00:59:43

Thanks for the quick response, however I am somewhat confused by the answer:

In simple terms I need to update to version 6.1.10 of CE4 Gallery
then do I need to republish all my galleries with that ? do I need to change anything in the galleries in LR to be able to get it to upload new versions to the website ?

I am confused by template name contains spaces - I cannot see where or how to change this as galleries I have don't have spaces in the names ? Would this also cause a problem if the particular templates aren't even used for any of the galleries ?

I also have an issue in trying to access password protected galleries using the master password, it doesn't appear to work or I have forgotten it - is it possible to find the password or reset it without having to upload the whole website from scratch...

Again I thank you for your support and help in resolving these issues.

Hi,

A few of the galleries on my website www.kishwphotos.co.uk/private_galleries are returning an error message which I don't understand as they used to work and I haven't updated or changed them for a while.

The error message is :

I have tried to upload the galleries but still get this message when clicking on the tumbnail to access them....I am unable to tell if this issue is with the gallery index page or the specific galleries or which LR plugin I need to look at to try and correct it
the galleries that aren't working are
/hanwell_carnival_1/
/hanwell_carnival_fete/
/norwood_green_village_day/
/palace-to-palace/

Your help in resolving this issue would be most appreciated.

#5 Re: PHPlugins (CE4) » Using Context Menu in different galleries » 2016-03-16 22:19:36

thanks for the quick response and info.
If I enable image download function does it only affect new galleries created with the template or can it be applied retrospectively to existing galleries ?

I like the idea of using php code to enhance the website, but I find it a bit daunting to learn just for using on a single website and hence would prefer to use options to generate necessary code automatically from the plugins ....

Hi

I have used the php code to disable downloading images from the right click context menu and it works well.
However, it is functional right across my complete website.
Is there a way to ignore the code if I access certain galleries or go to a particular page on my site and then to re-enable it if I navigate away from that page ? My reasoning for this is when a client access's a password protected gallery they are free to download any of the images but when viewing any of the general portfolio galleries the images cannot be downloaded.

Maybe if the code was expanded so that instead of just displaying a warning message and stopping the download it requested a password to allow the user to access options to download.

The next bit of this puzzle is it would be much more preferable and easier to use if this php code could be integrated so that it can added to ones site automatically by means of a toggle switch/option in the plugin/templates to make the application of it much easier than having to learn and understand the coding methodology. Maybe something that could be added to a future upgrade ?

I look forward to you valued help.

#7 General » Checking Installation » 2015-09-30 18:42:18

Okay for each plugin 'sysinfo' will show the current version number of the installed plugin but with several plugins required and downloads of updates available it gets somewhat tedious to check that one has all the latest installed and running.

Is there such thing, if not would it be possible to create one, as a script or standalone app that can be used to check ones installation and list the plugin installed an their version numbers and compare them with the latest updates available for download.

My other problem is installing the plugins is a bit old fashioned method (takes me back to the days of DOS3), is there any reason why the installation cannot be done from an exe that can check the installation against the existing files and update those that are required without the user having to manually navigate and copy files to the appropriate locations ?

I assume that these questions must have been asked previously, so forgive me for being repetitive, but I have found any answers yet ?

#8 Re: General » FB Open Graph Protocol Image management » 2015-03-02 20:19:29

Hi,
Thanks for the link, however it doesn't seem to address my issue. I understand that with the OG protocol it is possible define the Text and Image that is displayed in the preview on FB site. What I cannot find within the CE4 plugins is how I can define the actual text and image that is used, the only option seems to be the facility to enable the OG content but there is no control other than editing the  files that are output. It would be nice to have a means of defining the content before exporting and uploading the created web files.

#9 Re: CE4 Showcase » my Website created with CE4 now up and running » 2015-03-02 20:09:01

I have updated the index pages to get constant styling across the site. I changed to Iconic layout and now have an issue that some of the thumbnails do not display. It appears to be random to which ones do not display so is not consistent, is this likely to be because I haven't renamed all of the images with suitable filenames yet or is there some other setting/issue I have ignored ?

Hi Mathew,
Thanks for the feedback
I think the slideshows was one of the issues that was causing me some confusion in that once in a while I couldn't get a response from clicking on any of the navigation buttons.

With the renaming the files can you just confirm I need to do this within the LR folders panel - most of the file names I believe are the names automatically generated by my camera. The ones that probably causing issue are taken from scanned images or edited copies of originals. The thing I should know better because I come from the days of when file names were limited to 8.3 characters, but with latest versions of MS software I think I have fallen into the lazy trap of naming files that look good in normal English.

Hi Rod,
Thanks for the feedback
Always get some spelling errors sneak in, shouldn't be a problem to change them.

But I have struggled to get the index styles to match, I believe I tried copying the template data between the two but it seemed to fail  to produce the correct results. Can you please explain the easiest method to get styles to match.

I also noticed that when I click on one of the galleries the style changes, this is something else I couldn't get to change to what I expected.

I assume the index's are built in Autoindex ? I think I had problem trying to get the text and thumbnails to be laid out the way I wanted - is it possible to have more than two columns and have text beneath the thumbnail.

With overall style is it correct I should get it complete and as required within one plugin module first then copy to other plugin templates ? Is there a preferred order for creating the templates ?

I understand that links to websites from social media sites like FB or Twitter use meta tags such as Open Graph protocol  to display text and images in the preview link on the social media site.

Is there a way in which the text content and image that is displayed in these links can be set from within LR with the CE4 Plugins or do I need to manually edit the website content after it has been uploaded ?

Is it possible to import template/styles/content from existing website ?

For instance if original template gets modified/corrupted/lost and need to recreate the site content within Lightroom

How can I copy copy content(text, images, menu options) of one template to a different template ? do I need to do this with copy and paste in LR ?

I find installing the various components (gallery, publisher etc.) of CE4 quite cumbersome and antiquated by modern standards - is there technical reason why an automated installation/upgrade script/application cannot be written ? surely this would simplify the task of installation and upgrading  ? Very few programs these days rely on users having to manually copy programs to specific folders/directories....

Also is there any need to upgrade the various CE4 components if I already have got a website created and running  - If I install the upgrades do I need to republish my website to ensure it is using the latest version  or would this only be necessary if I redesign elements in my site or use new features available in the upgrades ?

#17 Re: CE4 Gallery » Image Captions not showing » 2014-10-08 19:23:50

Well I think I am getting somewhere, even though I still don't quite understand all the different terms and locations used - I have managed to get the Filename to display, however it appears that every so often one or two pictures get published without the Filename displaying in the Thumbnail Grid or Large Image in slideshow - so far I have been able to correct this by republishing the affected images - but that becomes a time consuming exercise if have lot of images to check... I get impression this could be timing issue during the publishing process ?

Is my understanding correct that when a Template is exported and uploaded it will use the currently selected photos, but these will not be needed for the uploaded collections/albums so they only need to be one or two pictures ? But can they be deleted of the server once the template has been uploaded or will the template still require them ?

#19 Re: CE4 Gallery » Image Captions not showing » 2014-10-08 07:19:48

I assume when I modify the metadata/caption settings I have to save and export the template to my server before republishing the collection ?

#20 Re: CE4 Gallery » Image Captions not showing » 2014-10-08 06:01:22

hmm, I think I may of moved the gallery templates accidently while play with FTP program..... brings the point I noticed that if the gallery template doesn't exist on the server the collection settings doesn't seem to show the name of the missing template ? so it makes it difficult to identify the name of the missing template.... is this a function of how lightroom works or something that could be fixed within the publisher plugin ?

I have several highslide galleries configure and seem to work as expected but when configure the function to display the Filename as a caption on the displayed image it works while previewing in LR but when it is uploaded to my site none of the captions/filenames show.

Can you please suggest what I may be doing wrong and or how to display file names with each image in the slideshow and or on the thumbnail images ?

I sure there must be something simple I am overlooking

#22 Re: CE4 Pages » Unwanted Text at bottom of Homepage » 2014-10-03 18:08:20

SOLVED -

the Issue wasn't anything to do with byte-order-mark, thank you kmlucy though that did help show me something I didn't know about editing program files.

It appears the error is in the code, reading through PHPLUGINS file line by line, I noticed on line 26 that it states:

*    * or all single quotes must be escaped (ie \') or vice-versa                        *

So edited the code copied from the Wiki to put a "\" infront of the apostrophes (single quotes) in the alert statement, and now it works as expected.

Quite a simple solution really but surprised it didn't get mentioned previously.

#23 Re: CE4 Pages » Unwanted Text at bottom of Homepage » 2014-10-03 07:19:05

I used windows notepad to edit the file, copied and pasted the code shown in your docs http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … ntext_menu
The code works fine when pasted into the gallery template files
when it was pasted into homepage index.php file it worked as expected (ie blocked context menu) but it still displaying some of code at bottom of the page
You seem to have two different version of the code, one which gives a warning message (from http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … text_menu) and the other code doesn't display any message on right click (from http://ce3wiki.theturninggate.net/doku. … ght-click)
the latter code works fine but the first option seems to have an error in the line that displays the warning message to the user

I think I have narrowed the fault down the 'Alert' line in the code from the ce4 wiki ?
further playing has helped - I have found that deleting the apostrophes from the Alert Text (in the ce4 code) enables it work - but I cannot see how this should make a difference when used the PHPLUGINS file when compared to the template-index.php files ??

#24 Re: CE4 Pages » Unwanted Text at bottom of Homepage » 2014-10-03 01:08:12

I tried adding the code into phplugins file and removing from homepage file (index.php) - and it causes just a blank page to be dsiplayed instead of the website ?? deleting the code from phplugins and the website works okay - except I haven't go my right click context menu disabled on the home page. Php has been enabled in my pages and gallery files so I cannot see whats causing this behaviour ?

I know you are against disabling context menus and I partly inclined to agree with your comments except that for certain situations it would appear to be an easier option to implement than others.

#25 Re: CE4 Pages » Unwanted Text at bottom of Homepage » 2014-10-02 04:40:45

thanks for the quick response, think I have grasped that idea now, my original understanding was it needed to be added to the pages where it was to be used. I expect that by putting the code into the PHP plugins file it only needs to be entered once and will work across all pages in my website....and as such will remain intact even if CE4_pages are updated and uploaded to the server. However, this doesn't help find where the erroneous text that is being displayed at the bottom of my homepage is stored/being read from ??
